Nature vs Morality
There is no such thing as dishonesty in the natural world. Yes, there are a few species who use disguise like the “stick bug”, the phasmatodea, which looks like part of the branch it lives on when it is motionless, but this is a marvel of adaptation not a manipulative attempt to misrepresent the truth. In the natural world there is only truth. There are no lies. When the sun is shining it shines. When the sky is raining it rains. There is no need for interpretation. Lies have no place in the natural world. Truth and existence are one in the same. One might argue that lies do not exist in the natural world because nothing in the natural world knows how to lie. Therefore dishonesty and morality are man-made concepts if we believe that humans are the only species that possesses freewill. My quest for a universal moral code has brought me full circle back to the natural world which is where my journey began as a young boy exploring the woods of my youth pondering questions about life wondering why I prefer to run through the forest with my dog than stay indoors in my house, a big rectangular box. Morality which was once the foundation of my perspective on life has been replaced by truth. Morality, right or wrong, implies a choice. Truth simply is. My search for a code has eventually brought to more of an attempt at consistency than it has to an allegiance to an ethical standard. By continually trying to be true I have found that morality takes care of itself with no obligation or forced rule. My loyalty is to being honest because honesty is my link to truth, not because I think it is right. Accepting life as it is creates the only foundation I need. Human beings have tried to control life and the world and the further and further away from the natural world we move the more complicated our lives become and the more necessary lies become. We can no longer judge the animal world as brutal and vicious with all we have demonstrated we are capable of. If animals are exempt from morality then what is our excuse for behaving even more brutal towards animals and towards one another. Every job I’ve ever had required me to lie or “turn a blind eye” in one form or another, but my loyalty to truth would not be broken because it is where I found myself. There are no role models for the overly perceptive, intensely passionate person. Every where they turn, every place they seek wait lies...except in the natural world. Ignorance truly is bliss and for everyone else denial reigns. Show me a truly happy, truly honest person and I will follow them until then I will walk alone.
Happy people do not hate. They do not fear. They do not kill. They do not lie.
